Become Responsibly Raised Insects Certified

We're accepting a small number of producers into our inaugural pilot. The first facilities to earn RRI certification will help shape the future of welfare standards in insect farming, and will be the first to carry the label. If you're producing black soldier flies, yellow mealworms, or crickets at commercial scale, this is an opportunity to be at the table early, working directly with our team as we refine the certification process and build something for the future of the industry.

Our pilot is designed to be collaborative. We know your team is already managing complex operations, and we've built our process to reflect that — with tiered certification levels to allow multiple entry points, hands-on support from application through audit, and standards grounded in the best available science on the species you're raising. Whether you're ready to certify now or want to start a conversation about what it would take, here's how the process works:

Review the Applicable Standard

Review the standards that interest you. Currently, RRI offers standards for black soldier flies, yellow mealworms, and crickets. Producers may raise other species on-site and still seek RRI certification, but RRI is only able to provide certification for those species at this time.

Initial Inquiry

Get in touch. Let us know that you are interested in becoming RRI certified. We will set up a first call to learn more about your business’ interests and needs.

Pilot Program (2026–2027)

If you are interested in certifying soon, prepare to go through our pilot program. 2026 is RRI’s launch year. We are accepting a limited number of producers in our 2026 - 2027 pilot. Our pilot program partners will be the first to undergo audit and receive certification, and will be RRI certified for two years, with annual inspections in the interim (see Understanding Our Standards for more information).

Future Applicants

If you think you may be interested in certification down the road, we still recommend that you get in touch. Our team can discuss next steps. And you will be the first to know when our post-pilot application process launches.

Audit Preparation

Prepare for audit by ensuring that your operations meet RRI’s minimum standards. Our team will help you to prepare for your first audit, including helping you to select the certification tier that is the best fit for your team.

Audit and Certification Decision

Post-audit, you will receive your results. Once your facility complies with RRI standards, you will sign final paperwork and be authorized to use RRI’s logo on your certified products. Any brand that procures your products will also be authorized to use RRI’s logo.
